Week two started out with one of the BEST nights and ended {last night} With the worst one yet. At the beginning of the week, he went down at 12, woke at 4, ate and went right back to sleep until 8. More normally our schedule is up until 12 or 1, sleeps well until 3 or 4, and then is up from 4 until 6 or 6:30 {at which point, RJ usually comes to the rescue and takes him for a couple of hours and I sleep until 8 or 8:30}. Last night, he was pretty much up all night. He seemed pretty uncomfortable, and it seems his digestive system isn't working up to snuff. He struggles to poop and he'll push and toot and toot and push, and we change his diaper and there is hardly a squirt in there. Poor little guy, all that work for nothing! He usually only does one or two good poops a day. {I'm not sure how many he should be having, will be calling the doctor today} And after Abbey, me, and now Jo have all had colds, he was sounding a little stuffy last night. Which gives me major anxiety and flashbacks of Makayla with RSV at 3 weeks old. Let's hope this doesn't amount to anything that serious.
He is still just as sweet and content as ever. He has had a lot more awake time this week. He will lay there so sweetly and just look around. He rarely fusses {unless he's hungry, which is becoming about every TWO hours now!, or if he has a bubble.} He is a delayed burper most of the time, so he'll eat, fall asleep, fuss, I pick him up and he burps, and goes back to sleep. What a life!
He went back to the Doctor on Tuesday to have his weight checked and he was up to 7 lbs. 5 oz. The doctor was thrilled {as was I} But I wasn't surprised. His appetite has grown exponentially this week. Like I said, eating every two hours! His umbilical cord also fell off this week, leaving what looks to be an umbilical hernia. {come to find out daddy had one too!} I guess most of them fix themselves and if not we're looking at surgery when he's two. So, we won't even begin to worry about that yet. He enjoyed his first real bath Saturday morning and hopefully he'll have another one today {I'm having a hard time finding time to bathe all these children!}
We also enjoyed our first outings this week. We ventured to Abbey's soccer practice Wednesday afternoon, and we took a family walk to the park Saturday and spent a few hours. It's so nice to get out of the house. But now that he seems to be getting a little cold, I'm sure we'll be home bound for a few more weeks!
I had a lot of help this week again, which was so nice. Megan and Joanna took Jo hiking one day, and Melinda took her to the park another. Abbey went and played with Berkley all day Friday {they didn't have school} So, I yet again had a restful week, with plenty of alone time with Harvey.
We love you sweet Harvey man. We can't even remember what life was like without you in it, but it is so much sweeter now that you've joined our family. What a blessing you are in our lives.
Side note: RJ and I have been discussing lately the shows we watch, and whether or not we should continue to watch... I was having a hard time with this {My shows are my guilty pleasure} Shortly after we had this discussion, I went visiting teaching and the lesson was on teaching our children the importance of family. It said that it was our responsibility to teach our children the importance of the roles of the mother and the father and the sanctity of the family and marriage because they weren't going to learn it outside the home. It just made me realize that it isn't about ME anymore, it's about THEM. How long before they start sitting down and watching these shows with me? Probably sooner than I'd like to think. So, a day or two after we'd brought Harvey home, I sat down and turned on one of my shows {the girls were in bed. It was just Harvey and I} And I couldn't even watch it! I sat there holding my sweet, innocent baby boy and couldn't have that influence take over my home. It was amazing how fast the spirit left. I wanted Harvey's sweet spirit to fill my home, not the filth from the TV. So, that made the decision for me...no more crap on TV!
Week two highlights
** Lots more spontaneous smiles {and some that don't seem so spontaneous}
** More awake time

Good for you about the TV. I need to do that. I hope you get some rest. Your babe is so cute! I really wished we lived closer!!!
Impressive. I like your style. You go girl! PS...Harvey? I love him. Darling little guy. You guys must be so excited to have a little boy. So fun. If I haven't told you yet...congrats! Love all around.
Congratulations on your new little one. I didn't even know you'd had him! What a CUTIE. Great thoughts in the post too about what we watch and spend our time with. You hit it right on, it's about them and we don't want any negative influence in our homes. Says a lot about you Rach. Hope you start getting more sleep! Enjoy.
Good job, mom, don't lose your resolve. If Harvey's not the cutest little baby boy EVER--I don't know who is--besides Logan, Tyler and Ezra. We do have handsome boys in our family! Love you
Your little Harvey man is certainly cute! I love the spirit these new little ones bring with them!
He's so cute, Rach! You two dun good! I know what you mean about he TV. Ever since we moved in to our new house we haven't had TV--I know the kids love it because whenever we go to g-pa and g-ma's that's their destination! We recently got Netflix (well the free month trial run) and I totally got into Prison Break. We got into the middle of season two and our free month was up. Todd decided (I should have been more supportive) it's just better to be without shows like that--or any other shows that could be at our kids fingertips so he canceled. Like you said, guilty pleasure. I guess it's back to reading or I'm working on the whole crochet thing :)
impressive journaling He will have the best baby book ever
