Hard Earned...

Shortly after Christmas, Abbey decided that she REALLY wanted an American girl doll. Unluckily for Abbey, her birthday is 2 weeks before Christmas, so her wish would have to wait a whole year. UNLESS, she could earn the money herself! I offered this idea to Abbey, and she was ready to go. Just for the record, these dolls don't come cheap. She had to save about 120$ to get the doll she wanted. So, the work began. She did her daily chores to earn 1$ a week, she picked up Charlie's poop for a little extra, and did BIG jobs for me for even more. {She mopped the floors and scrubbed my baseboards} She worked so hard, and even did some work for Grandma. by May, she had earned about 75$. It wasn't easy for this little 5 year old either, because whenever we went to Target, she'd want a toy--and i'd always tell her she'd have to use her money. She'd think about it and decide she wanted to save for her doll. The only time she took money from her piggy bank, was to buy ice cream from the ice cream truck {and I think she'd tell you that was 2.50 well spent}
When it came time to sell Charlie, we told Abbey she could have some of the money that we got from selling him. She FINALLY had enough money to order her doll. That was one excited girl! AND one LONG week of waiting for her to arrive. BUT she finally came and Abbey has been so proud and had so much fun with "Abigail" {She named her after herself, because she got one that looked like her} .
I am so proud of her for working hard and saving her money for something she really wanted. It was a good lesson for her, and now she is saving to buy her and Abigail a matching outfit!

Maybe she could give Payton some tips on how to EARN money and SAVE it! Payt wants to do BMX which is only $50 {too much for me to want to pay but no American Doll Price} so he has to earn half. He wants to do a lot of jobs but never seems to find the motivation to do them. Then when he hears the ice cream truck he's ready to spend it regardless of my BMX reminding. Way to go ABBEY!!

Oh Geez! You are in trouble! Kit rules our family..seriously! I think we have to take more care of her than our other kids! And now we have to buy her a friend and lots of clothes, dogs, treehouses! This American Girl stuff has been a little nuts! But at least Abbey worked hard for her, we should try that route!
